What. A. Ride. Wow! This movie is exactly what the comic book movie needed and delivered in a big way. One of the prevailing criticisms of the comic book movie mega blockbuster machine is that the movies tend to lack stakes and for the most part, and that’s a legitimate issue. Often the good guys win, the bad guys go to jail (or die), and things roll on without much change for the status quo. Well… without giving too much away, this movie will be a breath of fresh air. It’ll make other comic movies feel like dust in the wind… I’ve said too much.

The Russo Brothers, tasked with their third Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, were given the gargantuan task of balancing nearly every hero the 18 previous movies set up while also introducing our first real glimpse of Thanos. They accomplished this by genuinely (made up word, don’t worry about it) making Thanos the star of the film and having the heroes revolve around him. Each character is given their moments to shine and the different tones developed through 18 films are all intermingled successfully; however, they exist in this movie only to further the development of Thanos. It’s brilliant storytelling and really brings out the most of Thanos who becomes one of the greatest villains in cinema. The budget for this movie was an astounding half a billion dollars and no small part of that went into the CGI work as well creating one of the most realistic nine foot tall purple aliens that has ever been presented on-screen. I can’t think of any others, but still, Thanos looked incredible. There are problems with pacing a bit and in some situations (the third act open light) the CGI falters, but when put up against any other comic book movie ever made, Infinity War holds its own.
